How Did the Industry Get Here?

How Did the Industry Get Here

Growth and Popularity
There has been a major surge in the hair and beauty industry with around 12 salons opening up in the UK each week in recent years, thus increasing the demand for beauty salon equipment and furniture. The rise in demand has saturated the market and pushed prices down.

Overseas Production
It is now relatively cheap for manufacturers to import their products from production plants overseas in Europe and China. Furthermore, we’re buying salon furniture at lower prices; the average salon chair price is much cheaper than it was 30 years. This isn’t necessarily a good thing if you end up sacrificing quality for price.

No Industry Standards
With no regulations and standards placed on salon furniture manufacturers, buyers need to be careful about where and who they make purchases from. What looks like a bargain on the surface may prove costly in the long run.

E-Commerce:
It’s difficult to assess quality online from a thumbnail image. There is no replacement for grading and viewing furniture and equipment in person. The internet has made purchasing much simpler, but e-commerce comes with its own set of pitfalls, of which the savvy business owner should be cautious.

Making the Best Salon Furniture Choices

Best Salon Furniture Choices

Always think of your customer
Choosing style over comfort and function can be a costly pitfall and lose you clients if you don’t get the balance right. Of course, you want to maintain your business and salon image, but your customers will be spending most of their time in your chairs. If they’re uncomfortable, they may not revisit.

Try before you buy
There is no better quality control test with furniture than trying it out for yourself. Preferably for more than thirty seconds.

Be informed
Do your homework on suppliers and manufacturers in your area. Look at online reviews. Get as much information as possible about your potential salon furniture manufacturer before you buy anything. Only make educated decisions about your purchases.

Cost
When it comes to salon furniture and equipment, don’t be too stingy. Spend money in the areas that count, furniture should not be so affordable that it only lasts you four months.

Don’t weigh your final decision on price
Price is just one of many factors that should be influencing your decision when it comes to making a substantial purchase, like outfitting a salon and buying furniture. Consider warranties, insurance policies, and guarantees. All of these may increase your initial cost but save your business money in the long run.

To finance or not
Financing is a great way of affording items that may not be within your immediate budget. But think carefully about tying yourself into finance loans—ensure your business can afford the outgoing payment. On the other hand, investing in quality is beneficial in the long-term; you’ll replace items less frequently and your clients will be more comfortable.
